This brew is the result of a conversation in which someone noticed something missing from a Guiness-style clone brew recipe. It sent us down the path of experimentation and it went something like this:
"Hey, why does this recipe only have chocolate malt in it?"
"What do you mean?"
"These other stout recipes have at least two dark malts, but this one only has one. When I build the recipe in the computer it isn't nearly as dark as it should be. I think someone made a mistake."
"You might be correct. We may have to crowd source from some other stout recipes to get it close."
"Good idea! Lets do that!"
"I need another beer!"
"Me too! It's refill time!"
And that's just how I know it happened.
While I may have forgotten a detail or two of that particular conversation, the recipe that came out of it is a dream for any stout lover, and let me tell you, it truely is an EXTRA stout. There is no light coming through that glass AT ALL.
The roasted notes are very well balanced and in no way overpower the malt sweetness. It's lightly hopped and the Nottingham yeast really ties the whole thing together.
This is, quite simply, the best stout recipe I have ever put together and I am excited to share it with you.
