Prepping?

Posted by Robert Kuehnel on Jun 4th 2022

I don’t know about you but I don’t like the trends that I’m seeing with inflation and I keep hearing warnings of impending recession or worse. It reminds me that in “interesting” times people naturally think of ways to improve their situation. They find ways to reduce expenses, to increase their stock of necessities and to make themselves more self-sufficient. (How much toilet paper did you buy at the beginning of the COVID 19 shut downs?) Home brewing and wine making can contribute to those preparations.

Our local fruits will be available just as they were last year. After all a blueberry bush doesn’t scroll through facebook or follow the intricacies of of the Federal Reserve! Commercial wine on the other hand has to be transported and sold through a complex supply lines that strongly affect price. So why not make your own? You can have a supply on hand to please yourself and share with friends even if things get bad.

Beer offers similar opportunities. Will the price of a six pack go up at the grocery store? Why not brew your own and have a ready supply? The news has had plenty of stories about the loss of the Ukraine wheat and barley harvests to the world markets. We have already seen some effects of that in grain prices here at the store. But five gallons of beer that you have brewed yourself is still cost competitive. Depending on the recipe it is most often less expensive than packaged beer. It also has more character and flavor than what is mass produced by the major international brewing conglomerates.

Come on down to Yeastie Beastie and let us help you with your preparations. We have the ingredients and expertise to help you make your libations just the way you like. With home brewing and wine making you can have fun while getting ready.
